so, in the summer of 2012, i decided to venture back to the outer banks for a car meet, then visit my friend in chapel hill, NC for an evening before i went to Nashville. i was excited for this year, because this was the first adventure with my d5100 i bought late 2011. so all these pictures are super high quality digital.. i liked film, but honestly, its too fucking expensive.

i left early on a thursday, and drove for hours on end, with just me, some music playing through a tape deck adapter, some reefer, and the open road. i drove all day through west virginia and virginia before getting to richmond's clarion hotel.

i rewarded my epic drive with this pretty gnarly club sandwich from kitchen 64, the restaurant/bar across the street. i also picked up a 6 pack of this beer seen below from the adjoining gas station.

the following morning, the people i met up with from PA and NH at the hotel left for outer banks, caravan style. we left for chesapeake VA to meet up with even more people to go to the car meet.

and once everyone was gathered, we continued on to outer banks. which entailed driving down rt 12 to buxton. a 1.5 hour drive on very straight and flat, yet scenic road. mostly typical ocean views.

the day we arrived was very very windy. that haze overtop of that sand dune is sand being blown. also, look at the tall grass on the dune for reference to the wind speed.

we stretched the tarp i had between my wagon and another car, and voila, a campsite was born. setup a table, two propane grills, some chairs, and a bar on the back bumper of my car complete with multiple kinds of beer and liquor, and we were ready for some good times. we had well over 20lbs of different meats, which were stowed in my cooler (more on that later) to cook on the two grills.

the campsite was dubbed the "meth lab" because of it's appearance to the rest of the campground and car meet attendee's.

the lack of light pollution on cape hatteras is amazing.

cape hatteras is one of my favorite beaches, because you are allowed to drive in certain areas. its purely just that unpopulated that there is no problem allowing people to drive on the beach.

i had to wash out my cooler and a few of my drinks because of all the meat in my cooler over the weekend when i was about to leave. the beaches are typically fishing beaches and have fish cleaning tables by most the vehicle access ramps. this dickhead bird kept pestering me, i assumed he smelled the meat scent.

later that day, i said good bye to all my friends, new ones i had met and the friends met up with in virginia. i packed up my subaru wagon, and then proceeded to go head towards Chapel Hill, a town near Raleigh. i saw a few things along the way that perked my interest.

im pretty sure there was two toilets on that porch. seriously. this was one of the nicer houses in the area too.

once i got to chapel hill, the difference is amazing. the city is about the only liberal city in the whole state, and its also home to University of North Carolina. don't worry, the city has made it a point to let you know that UNC is in chapel hill. otherwise, a great place to live.

why is this bell locked down??

after staying the night in chapel hill, i thanked my lovely friends for giving me a couch to sleep on, then i headed back on the highway.
